In recent years, both research and research data management (RDM) have become increasingly important at universities of applied sciences (in German "HAW") in Baden-Württemberg. The HAW network involved in the project has set itself the strategic goal of establishing FDM at HAW in Baden-Württemberg as a common component of the research process in the long term. To this end, the FORTH-BW project will develop and evaluate an innovative overall concept for the research data management of a HAW network.

In work package "IT support", led by HFT Stuttgart, the research data life cycle at several universities is being investigated, as well as the most suitable software solutions for managing research data life cycles.

• Concept development for the collection, planning and documentation of the research data life cycle (data lineage), from the initial collection to all changes to the data through ETL processes ("Extract, Transform, Loa": method for integrating data from different sources), further processing and evaluation, simulation, etc. to the publication and subsequent use of the research data.
• Market research on software solutions for the management of research data lifecycles and publication in research data repositories or national research data infrastructures.
• Testing and evaluation of software solutions for the management of data lifecycles on the basis of concrete research projects
• Development of subject-specific guidelines for the management of the research data life cycle according to FAIR criteria

• Concept for documenting the life cycle of research data in research projects.
• Selection and prototypical testing of a suitable software system for the documentation of the data life cycle including internal data management.
• Guidelines for research projects on the management of the entire research data life cycle, taking into account subject-specific practices and standards
